Nunavik, “the place where we live” in Inuktitut, extends over 560,000 square kilometres in the Northern part of the Quebec province in Canada. Nunavik artists played a major role in the development of local economy, in the 50s and early 60s. They were among the first native artists to become internationally known. Artists in Nunavik work with different materials for carving such as steatite(soapstone), serpentine, caribou antlers, whale bone and Ivory.
